Vladimir Putin was born in 1952 as the youngest of three children to Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin and Maria Ivanovna Putin. However, he was the only surviving child as his two brothers died in early childhood in the 1930s.

According to his personal website, Putin came from an “ordinary family” and had humble beginnings – unlike plenty of his political peers. His father was a crippled war veteran while his mother was a factory worker, and the family struggled to make ends meet. They even had to move into a communal building with multiple other families – which he’s referred to as cold and covered with rats. Yikes!
