Could you imagine going swimming in a dress? Women did it all through the 1910 era, and that wasn’t even the worst of it. Swimsuits in the early 1900s were made from heavy flannel fabric and covered nearly every inch of a woman’s body to conform to “modesty,” and while swimsuits in 1910 were still quite heavy, they were a symbol of progression. Women exposed their arms, hemlines crept up to the mid-thigh and designers used less fabric to conceal a girl’s figure. The swimsuit police was still around to measure the length (seriously), but bathing suits slowly started becoming more glam and less about covering up.
