Before there were the sketchy waist trainers promoted by Instagram influencers, there was the S-bend corset – a staple in Edwardian era fashion. It altered a woman’s posture and gave her the hourglass shape that was expected at the time, but at quite a cost. The S-bend corset was initially believed to be healthier for women that the Victorian era corset, as it placed less pressure on the abdomen.
