You know Kuzco from Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove? The teenage royal who was spoiled, selfish, and didn’t care about much besides partying and jewelry? We’re pretty sure he was inspired by Elagabalus. The Roman emperor took the throne at age 14 and used his title to frequent brothels and engage in countless sexual relations with both men and women, as well as disregard Roman traditions. He stayed faithful to his cult of Elah-Gabal and forced his people to abandon their beliefs in favor of his own. His four-year reign was full of sex scandals, ignorance, and hard partying – and ended abruptly when he was brutally murdered by his own men.
