Even after being a top 10 tv series in the ‘80s, it’s been said that CBS chairman William Paley never really liked the show. Maybe it was due to the shows southern humor or the lack of ‘sophistication’ but America loved it and Mr. Paley was just a rotten old man stuck in the past.

He would repeatedly describe the show as ‘lousy’ even after the show reached tremendous fame.
