There’s no denying Putin’s influence within the media. He received the top spot on the annual Most Powerful People in the World list by Forbes four times between 2013 and 2016 – beating out Barack Obama, Pope Francis and Bill Gates.

Putin is “one of the few men in the world powerful enough to do what he wants –and get away with it,” Forbes wrote in 2015. He was also named Person of the Year in 2007 by Time.
