The Nipah virus and Hendra virus are both closely related to one another. Both are transmitted through contact with fruit bats, and both display very similar symptoms. They both start off as respiratory infections, then turn into encephalitis among unlucky patients.

This virus somehow manages to get scarier than Hendra. It’s both deadlier and more common than its cousin, with a 75 percent mortality rate.
